Perthshire Family in NHS complaint get backing
A family from Perthshire have the backing of Holyrood and Westminster in their bid for answers from the NHS. The MacGillvary Family are angry with the way their father John was treated at Perth Royal Infirmary after he suffered a stroke. They were told the 78 year old would have just hours to live but after asking for his medication to be taken away he improved. Now they've got the help of MP Gordon Banks and MSP Dr Richard Simpson to get answers from the NHS.
Increase in fines for seatbelt offences
Police in Perth are advising drivers that penalties for seat belt and number plate offences will increase from today. Fines have doubled to 60 pounds. Tayside Police fined almost fifteen hundred drivers and passengers for seat belt offences last year.
Perth family deported after fathers death
A Perth family who were forced to leave Scotland after the death of their husband and father have received the backing of local MP Pete Wishart. Mr Wishart's previously campaigned over the new home office immigrations points system, and secured a place in Perth for Dr Swarthik Salins. Now he's fighting for the Singh family, who've been forced to return to India. Mrs Nidhi Singh and her two daughters were asked to leave Perth when her husband died earlier this year.

Motorcycle accident claims life
A Perthshire man died in a 2-vehicle collision near Guiltown on Friday. The victim's been formally identified as David James Guthrie from Cedar Drive in Blairgowrie. The 27-year-old man sustained fatal injuries when his motorcycle collided with a black Volkswagen Golf on the A93. It happened just after half past one in the afternoon. Police would like to speak to a nurse who administered first aid to Mr. Guthrie at the scene. They also want to speak to anyone in the area at the time that may have seen either vehicle.
Eco monitors on trial in local schools
A Perthshire inventor has had her eco monitor design installed at four Perth schools. An event's being held this morning at Kenmore primary school to launch the trial of the Ewgeco monitors. They'll be used to store data on electricity use. British Female inventor of the year Tanya Ewing came up with the concept.

An independent think tank has called for duelling of the entire A9 from Perth to Inverness. Reform Action's asked for immediate action to be taken on Scotland's most dangerous road. John Macgillvary's family believe he was given the wrong medication at the hospital after suffering a stroke. Medication given to sedate the Auchterader man was withdrawn at the family's request. They believe their intervention may have saved his life.

Andrew Brown stole the money as the congregation were singing at the Rattray Parish Church in Blairgowrie. The 24 year old from Ashgrove gardens in Blairgowrie made of with 300 pounds in cash and cheques last January. He was jailed at Perth Sheriff court after it was heard he'd spent the money on drugs.

A row's brewing over plans to change the famous black watch red hackle. The cap decoration is seen as one of the remaining identifications of the regiment. Now campaigners fear it could be turned purple to match other royal regiment's hackles.

Police are re-appealing for information after an armed robbery at a Perth betting shop. CCTV footage has been released showing the robber wearing a balaclava at the Ladbrokes on Leonard Street. He made off with a four-figure sum of cash from the bookies back in February. The suspect's described as around five foot eight and has blue eyes.

The Black Watch has carried out one of the biggest air operations of modern times. The Ministry of Defence says troops carried out an assault on one of the last Taliban strongholds in Helmand Province. The 3 Scots battalion have close ties with Perth.

NHS Tayside are responding to safety fears over Swine flu. Locals are reminded that risk to the public still remains low, despite Tayside's first case of the virus being confirmed. An exhibition showcasing designs to improve Dunning go on display today. The Place check project aims to improve open spaces in the Perthshire Village. Chinese cannabis farm gardener jailed
A Chinese man running a cannabis farm in a Perthshire flat has been jailed for almost three years. Feng Chen will be deported when his sentence is over. 600 marijuana plants were found at a flat in Alyth last February. The 25 year old simply a Gardener in the operation, and didn't know what the plants were. He was sentenced at Perth Sheriff court today.
Town regeneration bid
Perth town centre could be in for a spruce up if a 3 million pound cash bid is successful. The council have applied for the money through the governments town centre regeneration fund. They hope to use the money for refurbishments of the Fair Maids house. They'll also use money to renovate The Cross in Coupar Angus.
Flying the flag for armed services
A special flag was raised on the North Inch this morning. It's to mark the beginning of celebrations for armed forces day on the 27th of June. A march will be held in Perth on July 7th to commemorate the armed services.

Perthshire Hydro scheme unveiled
Plans for a thirty million pound redevelopment of a Perthshire water treatment works are being unveiled today. MSP Roseanna Cunningham is officially opening the hydro turbine system at Loch Turret. The upgrade, by Scottish Water, should power 450 homes. They'll deliver 85 million litres of fresh drinking water every day.
Further criticism over City Hall
The council have once again been criticised over the City Hall redevelopment. Tory Council group leader Alexander Stewart says elected members are as much in the dark over renewed plans for the hall as the public are. He's asked the council once again for a detailed update on plans to turn the hall into a retail and community centre.
Mr Stewart says they first asked for the information back in February.

Kirkton and Mailer Farm and the Ballathie Estate will see improved woodland areas thanks to money from the Scotland Rural Development Programme. Almost 150 thousand pounds will see 30 hectares of native woodland planted near St Magdalene's Hill woodland in Perth. And almost 50 thousand pounds will assist with the expansion and management of Ballathie estate's native woodland.

A terminally ill Perth woman has been jailed for a year after embezzling almost 90 thousand pounds from friends. Jennifer Dobie stole money from accounts whilst working at the Perth branch of the Dunfermline Building Society. The 56 year old is suffering from cancer and told court she has a life expectancy of six years. Perth Sherriff court heard how she took money from mortgage accounts over a five-year period to pay off massive debts.

8,000 people have signed an online petition calling for improvements to the A9.

Police in Perth are reassuring festival goers that T in the Park is safe. It comes after two men were jailed yesterday for attempted murder at the Perthshire festival. John Tiffony and Robert Kid were both sentenced to nine years for stabbing Mark Morrison last year. Police say the incident was despicable and the festival has an excellent safety record.

Business in Perth and Kinross is bucking the national trend. St Johns Shopping centre recorded a five per cent increase in visitors throughout May. That's despite the sharpest fall in retail sales nationwide for nine years. It comes the day after figures showed an increase in new start-ups in the big county. But Chamber of commerce president Mike Beale says we can't be complacent.

Men appear in court over T in the Park attempted murder
Two men accused of attempted murder at T in the Park will learn their fate later. Robert Kidd and John Tiffoney are in court after allegedly stabbing Mark Morrison 11 times at the Perthshire music festival. They're on trial at the High Court of Dunfermline. Both deny all charges against them.
Concerns over Murray Royal Hospital plans
A community council are holding a meeting to alleviate concerns over the Murray Royal hospital development. Bridgend, Gannochy and Kinnoull Community council have invited a spokesperson from NHS Tayside to the meeting. Horse owners have been told to be on the alert after a horse in Perthshire had its tail cut off and was almost set on fire. The eight year old was attacked in a field near the Crieff Hydro Hotel on the 29th of May. About 2 foot of its tail was stolen and marks were discovered on the remaining hair. Police have sent registered horse owners a text message warning after the incident.

A woman's been taken to hospital with serious head injuries following a crash last night. The 49 year old was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry and 6 other vehicles during rush hour. It happened on the A9 Western Bypass, near the Broxden roundabout. Police, Fire and Ambulance services attended the collision at around half past 5. Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash to get in touch.

A local MP has expressed his condolences after the death of another Blackwatch soldier in Afghanistan. Pete Wishart has responded to the news that a soldier was killed in Khandahar last night. Two people have been arrested in connection with a stabbing at a flat in Perth. A 25-year-old man suffered leg and chest injuries in an attack at a property in Cross street, just before 1 o'clock on Wednesday morning. The area was cordoned off while police examined the scene. They have now arrested a 35-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman who are due to appear at Perth Sheriff Court on Friday.
Child protection service 'best in Scotland'
Perth and Kinross has one of the best child protection services in the country. That's the findings of a report released today. The report highlights how children at risk are quickly identified, and how support staff have good relationships with families. Council chief executive Bernadette Malone says the work they put in is invaluable.
0% rape convictions in Perth
There were no convictions for reported rape cases in Perth between 2007 and 2008. The shocking results came out in a Scottish government report. 55 rapes were reported in Tayside. Not one led to a conviction. Scotland has the lowest rate of convictions for sex crimes in Europe. That’s despite an increase on the whole in that year.

A 25-year-old man suffered leg and chest injuries in an attack at a property in Cross street, just before 1 o'clock on Wednesday morning. The area was cordoned off while police examined the scene. They have now arrested a 35-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman who are due to appear at Perth Sheriff Court on Friday.
Child protection service 'best in Scotland'
Perth and Kinross has one of the best child protection services in the country. That's the findings of a report released today. The report highlights how children at risk are quickly identified, and how support staff have good relationships with families. Council chief executive Bernadette Malone says the work they put in is invaluable.
0% rape convictions in Perth
There were no convictions for reported rape cases in Perth between 2007 and 2008. The shocking results came out in a Scottish government report. 55 rapes were reported in Tayside. Not one led to a conviction. Scotland has the lowest rate of convictions for sex crimes in Europe. That’s despite an increase on the whole in that year.

Man injured after Perth flat attack
A 25-year-old man was seriously injured at a Perth flat last night. Police are carrying out enquiries after the assault in on Perth's Cross Street at around five to one this morning. The victim's been taken to Ninewells hospital with leg and chest injuries. His condition is not thought to be life threatening. Officers have cordoned off the immediate area around the flat to carry out investigations. Anyone in the area between half past 12 and 1 are asked to contact police.
Progress on recovering money lost in Iceland
Encouraging progress has been made to secure the one million pounds lost in the Icelandic banking system. A committee heard this morning how the issue is being pursued. But there's still uncertainty over the outcome. The money was deposited in the Glitner Bank last March, shortly before the Icelandic banking system collapsed.

It comes after a Coupar Angus teenager avoided injury when vandals attacked the bus she was travelling on in Lochee last Wednesday. Glass shattered leaving the 17-year-old terrified. She believes she's been shot at. Another of Stagecoach's Strathtay coaches was attacked just two days later. No one's been arrested, and the council plan to approach the bus company over the incidents.

Victory for SNP
The SNP are celebrating after success in last night European Election count. They secured the majority of votes in Perth and Kinross. They also took 29% of the vote in Scotland. It's the first time they've secured the largest share. The Conservative party came in second locally, 2000 votes behind. The liberal Democrats took third place with Labour close fourth.
Black Watch in Afghanistan drugs raid
The Black Watch has recently completed another operation in Afghanistan. They've been involved in night raids. They were deployed to Helmand Province at the end of March. One soldier has died during their time there so far. The 3 Scots regiment have close ties with Perth, including headquarters at Balhousie Castle.
Roadshow drives in to Perth
The Driving Ambition roadshow shifts into gear in Perth and Kinross this month. It gives youngsters the chance to learn about responsible and safe Car use. Experts will be on hand to teach school pupils. They'll find out how to pick their driving instructor right up to choosing their first car. The summer event follows a successful pilot last year. They'll be travelling round secondary schools in Perthshire for the next two weeks.

Missing Perth woman traced, whilst German woman still missing
A Perth woman whose been missing for a week has been traced safe and well. Lorraine Rothwell from Bridgend has made contact with her family after a police campaign. Meanwhile a German national who worked on a Perthshire farm has now been missing for two weeks. Sonja Von Monkievitch was last seen at Culdees Farm in Aberfeldy where she worked voluntarily. Police are increasingly concerned for her welfare.
NHS dentist plans for Perth
The problem of finding a dentist in Perth will be lifted, after a dentist prepares to take on thousands of NHS patients. Caledonian dental Care has unveiled plans to expand their business, creating 20 jobs in the process. The current York Place practice will be expanded to include a new eight-surgery building along Kinoull causeway. It'll mean that people will be entitled to NHS care for at least four years. An information pack can be picked up from the practice on Saturday the 20th June.

Grantully primary school took away the top prize at this year's Harris Moore Awards at Perth's AK Bell library yesterday. The awards encourage school pupils to care for the environment. The competition's been running since 1991. Schools are judged throughout May on their individual projects. Grantully demonstrated excellence in all areas for their innovative school grounds project.

An empty church in the centre of Perth may be transformed soon. Meetings have been held with a prospective purchaser over St Paul's Church. It's been described as an eyesore. The unusual octagon church, dating back to the 1800's has lain empty for years. Plans for different uses have fallen through, leaving the public and the council frustrated.
Voters head to the polls for European Parliament election
Voters across Perth and Kinross are heading to the polls to vote in the European elections. Voting started at 7 o'clock this morning and will go on until 10 o'clock tonight. 6 MEP's will be elected to represent Scotland. Gillian Taylor is the depute local returning officer. She says people should use their vote. The Scottish result will be revealed next Monday.

Heroin addict on methadone programme for 18 years
A man from Perth has admitted taking methadone for eighteen years whilst still hooked on heroin. The situation's raised questions over Scotland's methadone policy. Martin Ramsay made the revelations at Perth Sheriff court yesterday after being arrested for stealing five bottles of perfume. The 34 year old's been on a methadone programme since he was 16. The programme costs around 56 million pounds each year to run. Ramsay's been put on probation and sent to attend drugs council ling.
Woman loses fire insurance claim for hotel
A mother of five lost an insurance claim after being accused of starting a fire in her own Perthshire hotel. Kathleen Toremar, a part time fire fighter, claimed her late husband appeared to her in a dream to say a faulty sauna started the fire. The Bunrannoch Hotel in Kinnloch Rannoch went up in flames in May 2000. When insurers CGU Bonus refused to pay out, Mrs Toremar took them to court. But yesterday, she was found responsible for the fire, which has cost her almost three hundred thousand pounds.

A local MP's set to oppose plans for an extension to a Perthshire quarry. Gordon Banks, MP for Ochil and South Perthshire is speaking at a public enquiry in Braco today. Falkirk based firm James McCaig want to extract over 70 thousand tonnes of sand and gravel from Braco Castle farm. Over 110 locals have objected to the plan.

A cross-dressing man who stalked a grandmother through Perth has been jailed for two years Christopher Magilton was also found with a knife, rope and spade in his car. The 37 year old previously admitted being high on drugs at the time, on Christmas Eve last year. The case was heard in the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday. Magilton has been placed on the sex offender's register and will be supervised for a year after his release.
Flats and tenements to get recycling facilities
Changes in the way recycling facilities are provided to residents of Perth flats will be considered tomorrow. It's proposed that a communal collection points should be considered. The bin locations will be close to the flat and tenement blocks. If approved, it'll give residents access to the council's kerbside recycling service, which hasn't been available before.
Warnings over budget alarm systems
Perth's trading standards team are warning residents against hoax calls from people offering alarm systems. It comes after officers received complaints about the cold calling technique used by sales people. They claim there's been a lot of break-ins in the area and offer a free alarm system scheme for the elderly. Officers have asked people to think twice before buying anything from cold callers, as there could be more costs involved.

Concern grows over missing Perth woman
The hunt for a missing Perth woman is continuing. Lorraine Rothwell hasn't been seen at her Bridgend home sine Thursday evening. The 45 year old may have been in Perth town centre shortly after her disappearance at around quarter to ten. She's described as white, five foot 2, slim build with blue eyes and blonde hair.
Police ask anyone with information to come forward.
