Arrest made after body found in flat blaze
A 26 year old man has been arrested in connection with a death yesterday in a Perth flat. A joint investigation between police and fire officers was immediately launched after a body was discovered amidst a blaze in the flat early on Sunday morning. A post-mortem is expected to be carried out on the victim, believed to be 50 years old, today. The arrested man is also expected to be charged and appear at Perth Sheriff Court sometime today.
New Party launches with new candidate for Perth and North Perthshire
Britain's newest political party is due to launch at Westminister today and will also announce a candidate for Perth and North Perthshire for the coming general election. The Trust Party is being launched by former Conservative Party member Stuart Wheeler, in response to the MPs expense scandal. Douglas Taylor will be running for the Perth seat against candidates from the SNP, Conservative and labour parties that have previously been announced. Mr Taylor was the Conservative Party candidate at the last election, where he was narrowly defeated by current MP Pete Wishart.
Keys handed over for North Inch Campus
The North Inch Community Campus is edging closer to an official opening and this morning welcomed a party from Perth and Kinross Council to tour the facility. The campus will be opened to the public following the Easter Holidays, where residents can access the library and music and sports facilities. The keys were handed over to Coucillor Ian Miller who was delighted to see new building and what it offers the community at large. The school will provide a new home for St Columbas RC High School and St John's RC Primary.
