Councillors still urged to rid city of incinerator plans

Perth and Kinross Councillors are still being publicly urged to rid the city of the proposed incinerator. Local MP Pete Wishart has been vocal in his campaign against the plans, and has urged developer Grundon to accept the views of Perth residents and to come to Perth to settle the issue. An upcoming full council meeting will decide how to proceed and revocation has been recommended, which could leave the Council with a hefty compensation bill. Mr Wishart has said Grundon have refused his invitations to come to Perth so far, and believes the company does not understand how unwanted the incinerator is.

City Hall survey response is positive

Thousands of surveys were returned to Perth and Kinross Council over the consultation period on the future of Perth City Hall. The process concluded last week, after a campaign where locals were asked which of 5 options they would prefer for the building, which has lain empty since 2005. The Council have spoken of the vital nature of the responses by residents, with the surveys being analysed with a view to being aired at a special council meeting in May.

Local Businesses encouraged to recycle and reduce waste

Perth and Kinross Council is encouraging local businesses to find out how they can reduce the cost of waste disposal. The Council are offering support to help avoid escalating landfill tax charged as disposal costs are set to continue to rise in the years ahead. Recycling and reducing waste has been recommended to help keep costs as low as possible. In hopes to encourage companies to recycle, the Council has not increased their recycling charges, to keep them below those of general waste collections.
