Renal buddies scheme proving a success at Perth Royal Infirmary

NHS Tayside is on the lookout for new volunteers for their successful renal buddies scheme. The service, which began last year, helps provides invaluable support and advice to kidney patients on a one to one basis. All volunteers have experience of either dialysis or a kidney transplant themselves and are able to share their own experiences with patients across the region, including those at Perth Royal Infirmary. If you fulfil the criteria to become a buddy and are interested in doing so, please call 01382 740229 or email renalbuddy.Tayside@nhs.net.

Pupils rebel over unisex toilet plan

Pupils at Perth High School have threatened to go on strike if plans to introduce unisex toilets are pushed through. The school is set to spend thousands on upgrading it's outdated facilities but some pupils have expressed concern and anger at the proposed design. The shared system has been installed in a number of recently built schools across the region and has attracted more than its fair share of controversy. However, Perth Council has come out in support of the plans, pointing out that other toilet facilities will be available elsewhere within the school.

Grundon refuse to give up on incinerator proposal

Grundon waste management have refused to give up on their plans to build an incinerator at Shore Road, Perth. The proposal, which includes an 80-metre chimney stack, had looked to be dead in the water, after the council announced that they were confident of stopping the development, without paying excessive compensation. However, a spokesperson for Grundon has announced that this news will not affect their standpoint and they will pursue their appeal against an earlier rejection by the Development Control Committee (DCC).
