Calls for peace over charity cycle race row

Highland Perthshire Councillors are calling for peace over the Etape Caledonia row. It comes after cyclists in the controversial event were accused of sending abusive messages to protestors. The closed road event was halted earlier this month when carpet tacks were strewn along the route. Now cyclists and protesters have been feuding over message boards online. Some of those against the charity cycle have had their details posted on public forums.

Fair City CCTV to be upgraded

Perth's CCTV footage is to be replaced with modern digital equipment. Plans for a new camera system are being unveiled today. The current cameras use old-fashioned analogue tapes to record footage. All 35 will be replaced with an up-to-date system. The new scheme will cost the council one hundred and 25 thousand pounds. Councillor Willie Robertson says the cameras are there to make people feel safe.

Better library facilities for Perthshire

The six new community campuses being built in Perth will provide better library facilities for the public. Community libraries are to be provided at four of the sites. The North Inch community campus in Perth will see a brand new library built in the centre of Perth. They'll also have longer opening hours. The lifelong learning committee will hear today how the new services will provide more opportunities for public learning.
