MP supports letter to window blind industry
MP for Ochil and South Perthshire Gordon Banks has spoken in support of an official letter sent to the window blind industry. Following the meet by US and Canadian Governments, as well as the European Commission, the letter was sent regarding the safety of blind cords. Mr Banks has been campaigning since the tragic death of a toddler in 2008 in his constituency. He believes it's a positive and powerful statement demanding immediate action. He will follow up with calls in the House of Commons to continue the work.
Falls Awareness in Perth today
NHS Tayside will be in the centre of Perth today promoting National Falls Awareness Week. Organised by Age UK, it draws attention to the risks of falling by older people and the possible causes. This year's focus is on 'Get up and Go', which promotes healthy living and exercise for strength and balance.
Osprey battles on as thousands watch online
A famous Perthshire resident is battling back from the brink of death despite experts fearing the worst for her health. Scotland's most famous osprey, who is nesting currently at Loch of the Lowes has been ailing since the weekend, with hundreds of thousands watching on live web feeds online. But the 25 year old continues to defy the odds to the delight of centre management. Although she is not yet out of the woods, it is hoped she will be able to continue to care for her new chicks.
