Action on Local Roads
Action has begun in a bid to fix some of Perthshire's weather damaged roads, but locals are being warned some repairs will have to wait until spring. Routes through out the area have been left badly rutted as a result of the recent freeze, with potholes several meters wide being reported in some places. A spokesman for Perth and Kinross council said that the council has a programme for carrying out a survey of road surfaces and that all required road repairs will be loged and carried out on a priority basis. He added that, carrying out repairs in winter conditions does present a challenge.
Proposed Licensed Trade Levy
Local councillors have expressed concerns over Scottish government moves to impose a social responsibility levy on the licensed trade. The community safety committee has been invited to have an input during the consultation stage. It has been agreed that the convener and the clerk of the Perth and Kinross licensing board will also have their say in the response to Hollyrood. Councillors have agreed that while the objectives of the proposals contain the in the Alcohol (Scotland) bill are laudable, implementing the policy may not be straightforward.
Application for Five Star Hotel
Grand plans for a 50 million pound, five star hotel at Kinfauns could finally be resolved by the spring, it has emerged. Applicant JWK Properties is seeking approval of major matters in response to issues that have now been ongoing for almost 7 years. The latest planning submission to the council, seems to indicated that most conditions set have now been met to the approval of concerned parties. Should the application gain full approval it is estimated that the hotel could be open in early 2014.
