Country Roads campaign nets speeders
Tayside Police charged over 30 drivers for speeding offences during the national Country Roads weekend over the 14th to the 16th of May. Among those caught out were three who were driving at over 100 miles per hour. A 29 year old man was caught driving at 101 miles per hour on the A9 near Perth. As well as detecting a number of speeding offences at the weekend, Tayside Police also caught five people who were driving while using a mobile phone and eight people who failed to wear a seatbelt.
Services for older people need to change
Services for older people will need to change, to meet growing future demand, according to new reports. Councillors will tomorrow be asked to approve the re-shaping of existing services in order to meet national objectives to help people remain in their own homes as independently as possible. The number of people aged over 65 living in Perth and Kinross is expected to increase by 74percent by 2031, higher than the national figure of 61percent.
Fight for out-of-hours care sees development
New Conservative Health Secretary Andrew Lansley MP has said he will renegotiate the GPs contract, which allows them to opt out of providing out-of-hours care. This topic has implications for the Highland Perthshire community of Kinloch Rannoch, who have been fighting for out-of-hours care. Now Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser says this can only be good news for the area.
