Perthshire town to get new sailing hub
A Highland Perthshire town is in line for a new and improved sailing hub after plans were approved yesterday by councillors. The Loch Tay Boating Centre in Kenmore will be demolished and replaced with a larger structure, which will include a water sports facility and a yacht club. Co-owner James Woolnough was on hand to assure councillors the plans were to create a modern venue for enthusiasts and not to overdevelop the area.
Railings back in place after WWII war effort
Work to reinstate cast iron railing at the front of the AK Bell Library in Perth is now complete. The recent cold weather delayed the works but that last capstones were lowered into place at the weekend. Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust designed and arranged the works. It's hoped to reinstate railings missing since 1941 when they were taken to help the war effort, in other prominent locations across the city.
Hotel approval given despite recommendations
Councillors yesterday voted to approve a 17 million pound Highland Perthshire hotel development, despite recommendations of refusal. The Kenmore Hotel plans to add on an addition 54 rooms and two holiday homes. However, issues still remain for SEPA and Scottish natural Heritage and so the plans will now need to be referred to Scottish Ministers for consideration. The hotel owners insist expansion is vital to their survival, and it's hoped that a further 28 jobs will be created as a result.
