Blackwatch troops mobilised in Afghanistan
3SCOTS Black Watch troops in Afghanistan were mobilised on short notice yesterday when a US army Chinook helicopter suffered a hard landing on difficult ground. A number of UK and Aghfan troops had been on the troop carrying aircraft and although it was badly damaged, no one was injured. As a specialist US Recovery team set to work to prepare the Chinook for extraction insurgents began to mass. One badly injured insurgent was subsequently treated by 3 SCOTS medics and evacuated by helicopter to an ISAF medical facility.
Campaignors say incinerator is fire hazzard
Campaignors against an incinerator planned for the centre of Perth are now warning that it could be a fire hazard. Bridgend, Gannochy and Kinnoull Council have highlighted last week's fire at Holden Environmental at Shore road as an example of what could happen. The 100 million pound incinerator is planned to be on the same site, which saw 7 pumps from across Tayside battle to put out the flames. Campaignors are worried about the proximity of the site to the harbour and prison as well as major roads.
Local MP weighs in on BNP television appearance
Local MP Pete Wishart has weighed in on his views over the BBC Question Time programme last night. The programme has been controversial after the BBC invited BNP leader Nick Griffin to participate on the show. Mr Wishart has said he believes the Party shouldn’t have been given a platform as they have no elected representatives. The BBC have defended their position stating BNP support achieved during the last European Election
