A9 Victim Named
A young girl who was tragically killed on the A9 at Auchterarder has been named as Elli Williams. Sixteen year old Miss Williams was hit by a number of cars on Tuesday night, while walking on the southbound dual carriage way that runs alongside the town. Emergency services raced to the scene shortly after 10pm but the Morrisons Academy pupil was pronounced dead on arrival. A close friend described her as a bubbly girl and said that he was completely devastated by her death.
Call for Parking Charge Suspension
Parking charges should be suspended this month in an attempt to tempt shoppers out onto the high street, and MSP has claimed. Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has spoken our after heavy snow and freezing temperatures provided a further challenge to beleaguered retailers in the approach to Christmas. Mr Fraser insists his proposal could help to lift the doom and gloom with Scotland still in the grip of a global economic downturn.
Big Chill for Perthshire Businesses
Following a harsh winter, the President of Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, Paul Shields, predicts a big chill factor for many businesses across the area in the New Year. Mr Shields highlighted that this month VAT increase will be the first thing to hit consumers, as firms battle to stay on top of ongoing economic difficulties.
The Chamber of Commerce has spent the last few weeks working with frustrated business operators as the weather has seen a massive rise in cancelled appointments and reservations, crippling the cash flow of those affected. Mr Shields also revealed that some businesses have had to stand by helplessly, as they have watched strong order books literally vanish.
